About BHF
Belie Health Foundation (BHF) is a faith-based non-profit, non-governmental organization with a vision to see the communities, less privileged people, women, and youths healthy, educated, and empowered for a thriving society.
Our mission is to bring health care to the communities (specifically sexual and reproductive health for women and youths, as well as non-communicable diseases for adults and the elderly), education for orphans and the needy and capacity building for women and youths in order to save lives and enhance living standards.
For the year 2023, BHF has engaged in these areas (health, education and capacity building) to ensure a thriving community in the Buea sub-division.
HEALTH REPORT
Sexual and reproductive health project
Program Theme: Comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) for all.
Sponsor: Belie Health Foundation
Aim:
The primary goal of our “CSE for All” project is to improve sexual and reproductive health education and curb the rates of gender-based violence by educating adolescents on comprehensive sexuality education (CSE)
Results Realized
Belie Health Foundation successfully got consent to educate students in two secondary schools in Buea, namely, Government High School Bokwango and Full Gospel Secondary School Molyko, on Comprehensive Sexuality Education.
Approximately 1500 students at the Government High School (GHS) Bokwango and Full Gospel Secondary School (FUGOSEC) Molyko were reached. Through interactive and educational sessions, students were equipped with knowledge on topics such as sexuality, reproductive health, contraception, STIs, abortion, healthy relationships and sexual consent.





In addition, about 20 women were educated on family planning during a religious gathering called the Virtuous Woman’s World conference and about 30 other women were trained on intimate partner violence and mental wellness.



The impact of the CSE for all projects was significant as there has been an increase in awareness and understanding of sexual and reproductive health issues among adolescents and women in Buea.
This project increased the number of individuals seeking and receiving support for gender-based violence as well as it reduced risky sexual behaviour among adolescents.
Furthermore, about 80 women were reached out to in the Buea Central prison on menstrual hygiene day as they received reusable sanitary napkins and were educated on the menstrual cycle and menstrual hygiene.





Together against Non-communicable diseases (NCDs)
This is a project aimed at increasing access to accurate knowledge and services on non-communicable diseases as a means of creating awareness and curbing the rate of unidentified and unattended cases.
Results Realized
About 30 women were examined during the religious women’s gathering at the Virtuous Woman’s World Conference; their Body Mass Indices and blood pressure were measured, after which they received education on how to maintain healthy weight and blood pressure.
Furthermore, BHF, in partnership with the Community Initiative for AIDS Care and Prevention of the Baptist Health Service, was able to reach out to about 21 persons during the National Conference for Local Organizations who received free and voluntary screening on blood pressure, blood sugar and BMI and were counselled on how to keep fit.

On our social media handles, BHF was able to reach out to over 40,000 people on educational content on NCDs, Sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence.
Belie Health Foundation equally reached out to over 43,000 people with her health talks over the Christian Broadcasting Service radio on the program Healthy Living.
CAPACITY BUILDING REPORT
Belie Youths Lead (BYL)
Aim: To train adolescents and young adults on becoming positive changers with leadership skills relevant for the fast-paced world economy. Funders: Mr. And Mrs. NWANDJA
Results Realized
Through the BYL 2.0 project, 10 youths were trained on leadership. This phase covered a range of key lessons such as reading, writing and public speaking, ethics and etiquette, sexuality and sex, mental health, social media usage, problem identification and solving amongst many others.
As a means to ensure practical learning, these participants are being mentored as they use the knowledge and skills acquired to solve identified problems at their level within the community.




Empowerment for economic independence (EEI)
Aim: This project aimed at raising awareness and empowering champions on ending violence against women and girls and also training survivors of violence with income-generating skills
Funders: African Union, UNICEF and Spotlight Initiative.
Results Realized
Following the workshop aimed at uniting champions to end violence against women and girls, over 40 champions emerged, among which were survivors of different forms of violence. These were trained with accurate knowledge of violence against women and girls and taught how to advocate against it.















Also, adolescents were trained in Government High School Bokwango and Full Gospel Secondary School Molyko on Gender-based violence, prevention and how to offer psychological first aid.
Currently, 15 identified survivors are undergoing skill acquisition training.




OTHERS
Collaborations
Belie Health Foundation partnered with African Youth Mentorship, directed in Cameroon by Akorsong Maureen, CEO of AMAAN Africa, to realise the project of the Youth Mentorship Symposium in Cameroon. represented by her Executive Director, Mme Abigail Abamukong, Belie Health Foundation participated by being a speaker to the youth.
Also, at the Sexual Health Summit hosted by Sexual Health Companion, Belie Health Foundation, represented by Mrs Abigail Abamukong, collaborated as a speaker and panellist to shed more light on the importance of age-appropriate sex education within different circles.






Also, we collaborated with Medical Innovation Interventions (MEDINNOVINT) to share knowledge on the issue of violence against women and girls in the online community.
Also, BHF collaborated with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education in mentoring youths for volunteerism as we celebrated World Volunteerism Day.
Training and Awards
This year, Belie Health Foundation, represented by Abigail Abamukong and Nganga Nadia, participated in the UNICEF Advocacy Guide training hosted by the African Union and UNICEF through the Spotlight Initiative, which honed the skills of the volunteers in better advocacy work towards ending violence against women and girls and harmful practices as a whole.
Also, Belie Health Foundation was recognized in her country by the National Council for Local Organizations and awarded the Youth Mentorship Award of the Year 2023. This goes a long way to report the impact of the work done within the communities.


Conclusion
Belie Health Foundation, in these projects, supports the fostering of the right knowledge, empowering women and girls in the community to become and sustain comfortable and healthy lives.
We are determined to build upon our achievements, leveraging the lessons learned and experiences gained to drive even greater impact in the years ahead.
