Bertrand’s Heroic Story

A Success Story on Empowering Champions to End Violence against Women and Girls

Bertrand, a dedicated lecturer, became impassioned about addressing the alarming rate of violence against women and girls. Motivated to make a meaningful impact, he decided to take action.

Bertrand enrolled in the Belie Health Foundation’s advocacy workshop focused on empowering champions to end violence against women. This was a program funded by the African Union, UNICEF and the Spotlight Initiative. Through this training, Bertrand equipped himself with the knowledge and skills necessary to effect change.

Armed with newfound insights and a determination to make a difference, Bertrand returned to his community.
As a lecturer, he recognized the influence he held in shaping minds and fostering a safe environment.

Upon continuous interaction, Bertrand notices one of his female students, Sarah (name changed), who seems to bear the heavy weight of a silent struggle.

Instinctively, Bertrand reached out to her, offering support and creating a space where she felt comfortable sharing her experiences.

To his dismay, Bertrand learned that Sarah had been enduring years of violence in silence. Empathizing with her plight, he gently encouraged her to speak out and seek help.

Recognizing the importance of professional intervention, Bertrand facilitated her connection with our reputable organization, Belie Health Foundation, which specialises in supporting victims of violence.

Our organization, impressed by Bertrand’s dedication and Sarah’s resilience, is currently providing comprehensive assistance to her. She is receiving psychosocial support, counselling, and resources to rebuild her life. Bertrand continues to support her academically, ensuring she has the necessary accommodations to cope with the aftermath of the trauma.

This success story showcases Bertrand’s exceptional dedication to ending violence against women and girls. This demonstrates that individuals and men can be allies to make a profound impact in creating a safer and more supportive environment for those who have experienced trauma.
